[ Editor’s note: This version of this section is effective until March 1, 2022. ] A credit union organized in accordance with the provisions of this article, or in accordance with the laws of the United States or the laws of another state or territory of the United States, has the exclusive right to use the words “credit union” in its name or title; but an association composed of credit unions transacting business in this state may use the words “credit union” in its name or title. Any other person, association, corporation, or partnership using the words “credit union” in its name or title is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not more than five hundred dollars, or by imprisonment in the county jail for not more than sixty days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
