- The board shall establish continuing education requirements not to exceed 25 hours per biennium in massage therapy, its complementary methods as defined by the board, or any of the modalities described in paragraphs (5) through (8) of subsection (a) of Code Section 43-24A-19. The board shall by rule establish criteria for the approval of continuing education programs or courses. The programs or courses approved by the board may include correspondence courses that meet the requirements for continuing education programs or courses.
- Continuing education requirements or credits used for license renewal shall be approved by the board and provided by an instructor approved by and in good standing with a national massage therapy certifying organization or entity approved by the board.

The 2019 amendment, effective May 6, 2019, designated the existing provisions of this Code section as subsection (a); in subsection (a), added the language beginning with “in massage therapy,” and ending with “Section 43-24A-19” at the end of the first sentence, and, in the third sentence, substituted “requirements” for “criteria” in the middle, and inserted “programs or” near the end; and added subsection (b).
The 2022 amendment, effective July 1, 2022, added “and provided by an instructor approved by and in good standing with a national massage therapy certifying organization or entity approved by the board” at the end of subsection (b).
