  • (a) Any person, firm, corporation, department of the Government or other legal entity, upon whose property or in whose possession is found an abandoned motor vehicle, may apply to the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department (V.I.P.D.) for permission to have custody of such abandoned motor vehicle taken by said Department.

  • (b) The petition shall set forth the name and address of the applicant; the year, make, model and serial number of the vehicle, unless the same cannot be ascertained, together with any other identifying information; and shall contain a concise statement of facts surrounding the abandonment, together with an affidavit executed by the petitioner stating that the facts therein contained are true and that no material fact has been withheld.

  • (c) If the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department (V.I.P.D.) finds that the petition is executed in proper form and establishes that the motor vehicle has been abandoned on petitioner’s property, the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department (V.I.P.D.) shall take and deliver to the Department of Property and Procurement custody of such abandoned motor vehicle and shall give notice in accordance with the provisions of section 743 hereof.

  • (d) If any such abandoned motor vehicle is not reclaimed in the manner and within the time hereinbefore prescribed, the Department of Property and Procurement shall acquire title thereto as provided in section 744 of this chapter.
