Section 45-3-140 Applicability. The provisions of this article shall apply to all portions of Barbour County except that portion of Barbour County which lies within the city limits of the City of Eufaula. (Act 2007-272, p. 366, §1.)

The Legislature declares that volunteer fire departments and the Barbour County Firefighters Association that receive funds pursuant to this article are nonprofit organizations which are public in nature, as they protect the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of the county. Section 45-3-140.05 Eligible volunteer fire department. An eligible volunteer fire department, for the purposes of this article, shall mean a certified nonprofit volunteer fire department located in Barbour County that is certified under the Alabama Forestry Commission guidelines and is a member of the Barbour County Volunteer Firefighters Association.
