A person who violates AS 16.10.200 and 16.10.210 is guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 or by imprisonment for not more than one year, or by both.
AS 16.10.180 – 16.10.220 do not apply to (1) the use of nets for fishing for or taking salmon for the purposes of scientific investigation authorized by state law; and (2) existing laws and regulations prohibiting the taking of salmon by means of nets on the high seas.
